I have returned from gallivanting around the country! I thought before the big holiday post (oh you know it's coming! Castles galore!) I'd do a quick outfit post. Today's schedule was lunch with the girls, a spot of charity shopping and then watching the football in the pub with Dad. I was probably a tad overdressed for the latter but what the heck. I wanted to feel summery and pretty.
Dress - New Look
Cardi - Matalan
Sandals - Chiara (a big thank you to heartshapedbruise for introducing me to this fab website!)
Ring - Primark
Necklace - found down the back of a bed in a B&B when I was about 5
I sometimes wonder what the people at New Look think of when they design the fit of a dress. It seems to be a common complaint that their dresses are almost always too short - now personally, being barely 5'2, I don't tend to find this a problem, but this dress is verging on feeling far too short at the back for my liking. My main problem with it is that it's totally bra-revealing at the front! I tried different bras - made no difference. I tried hoicking it up - that didn't work either as the bodice was then totally in the wrong place. I don't even have big boobs; if I did, I could understand why so much was on display! The only thing to do was cover it up with a cardi. Not ideal in hot weather but the only practical choice I could think of. The main point is that it's a pretty frock. I'm sure I can work around the difficulties.
New Look cut dresses for I-don't-know-who. At 5'7" and quite busty, their dresses are barely decent on me - I get round it by wearing trousers underneath, but it's still a bit annoying...
ReplyDeleteKnow what you mean - for some reason their dresses fit me terribly in the, um, boobage area - and its not like I need a huge amount of space!
ReplyDeleteNew Look dresses are ALWAYS too short for me & don't have enough room for my boobs - always! Tis pretty though :)
ReplyDeleteAs I scrolled down I thought "ooh, Alex has got the same sandals as me!", then spotted my name check! Cheers love - I've become slightly addicted to that site recently.. tis very naughty!
Looking forward to hearing more about your trip :)

I think all dresses that have a sort of A line shape have that problem, i bought a gorgeous demin one from topshop last month and cant even wear it when its hot as I need to put leggins with it, sigh

Hmm I find them too short! Bought two a while back and have to wear leggings with them.
ReplyDeleteThis dress is very pretty on you, love the cardi with it - and the necklace from the b&b! :)

I love this dress! And how you've styled it!
ReplyDeleteI must say lady, you are looking slimmer and looking good. I LOVED your outfit on Jens post the other day! x
I love that dress, i love the red cardi too, is the one with the heart buttons? x
ReplyDeleteIt's not just New Look! So many high street shops (and I'm too cheap to compare designer clothes) are just cut for odd body shapes - I don't know what they think women actually look like, but it might be a good idea for them to find out! :D

It's awfully cute, that frokc, and you look lovely. We don't get that brand over here,as far as I am aware.Nice cardi!I often have to wear a cardi to hide the bra or slightly distract from my boobage!

Maybe instead of working around the hiccups - you girls (there seems to be alot of agreeance in the comments) should contact the company with your complaints.
ReplyDeleteI mean, it looks great on you with the cardi on top and yes it's pretty... but why would you want to pay money for something that isn't perfect?
:)
Lovely summery look! Glad you are back, you had the best weather, looking forward to seeing your castles, I't one of my loves too.

Very pretty dress but I agree New look dresses are way too short, I tried one on a couple of months ago and it only just covered my bum. Did you try it on before your bought it hun? x
ReplyDeleteYou look adorable in red! Overdressed? Pah! As the great Helga (and Keith Richards say) if it's worth doing it's worth overdoing.
ReplyDeleteHigh street clothing is truly shoddy in shape and fit hence the reason I don't bother, who are they designing for women or flumps?

You look lovely in this oufit. Awkward problem with trying to balance the front and back though - know exacly what you mean. You've done a great job here though. xx

I really love the dress on you and you don't look overdressed for anything, just very lovely =)

Mmm, I always have trouble with too-short dresses, in pretty much every shop I buy from. I don't notice it as much in winter because I can wear tights and it doesn't matter, but now the legs are out and there's far too much of them on display!
ReplyDeleteYou look wonderful here - so summery and playful. Love your casual stance on the last pic! x
You know, I don't think I've ever bought a dress from there ... hmm.
ReplyDeleteIt IS a very very pretty dress though! xxx
I love this dress-regardless of it's bra issues! It's so cute. My favorite mix EVER is stripes and flowers so this is just my cup of tea! You look too cute!
ReplyDeleteI find New Look dresses very hit and miss on length and fit! Love the look of that dress, shame about the neckline! Any bra revealing dresses I tend to stick a plain strappy top underneath to avoid flashing anyone!
ReplyDeleteI love the pattern of the dress, so beautiful. I hate it when supposed ideal clothes just don't fit right.
ReplyDeleteI had a top from New Look last summer, and whatever I did it would always reveal my boobs! Annoying.
I want to see the b&b necklace close up! x
Love the floral print of that dress!
