Please, someone, take pity on me and teach me how to do my hair properly. I had visions of a bit of a 60's beehive to go with this outfit and it all just went totally wrong and looks a big mess. Doom.
At least the frock is nice. Yay! Plus the chilly weather gives me a chance to wear my faux fur. This did not get mentioned in the recent coats post because I completely forgot about it until I was poking round in the loft at the weekend. The tapestry coat was there too. Hurrah!
Dress - River Island sale
Faux fur coat - vintage, from the amazing Kinky Melon ebay shop
Shoes - George sale
Bag - vintage, present from the lovely Margaret.
I know she will shout at me for still staring at the floor but the facing-the-camera pics today all made me look utterly pasty and moon faced. Look!
Bleurgh.

I am terrible at hair too! Sometimes I try back combing and it just looks a mess. But I adore the dress! So cute
ReplyDeleteCan't believe that dress is RI - looks proper vintage! And now I think I need a furry coat :) Can't help with the hair, I think it takes lots of backcombing? xxx
ReplyDeleteI like your hair! An understated beehive, a beehive for the everyday. It's certainly more than I could achieve. My hair is either straightened to buggery, or a frizzy mess. That's it. That's the limit of what I can do with it. It depresses me so much! I'd love wavy, mermaid hair or at least to know how to do an average impresssion of it.
ReplyDeleteLove the dress! A good way to brighten up these miserable grey days!
xxx Maddie
Love the dress, the detailing is amazing. The shoes and clutch are perfect additions and the hair really isn't that bad Alex, I think we all secretly dream of perfect locks xxx
ReplyDeleteI love the dress, I wouldn't have guessed it was River Island though xxx
ReplyDeleteI need help with my hair, but yours always looks very neat.
ReplyDeleteThe vintage faux fur coat looks fab. I've been thinking about buying something similar, but I'm so unsure if it will suit me.
I'm shit at hair I'm afraid, it does big of its own accord, but mainly with frizz. Think Monica (it's the humidity!). Or it gets blow dryed straight at the hairdressers and I look Chinese. Which would be fine. But I'm Welsh. I can do a pony tail.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this outfit! And I think your hair looks nice, it takes the vintage vibe more modern...plus beehives-the monster ones at least-must ruin your hair right?! A little teasing and my hair is a disaster for like a week! XoXo Lori
ReplyDeleteBleurgh-bahahaha!
ReplyDeleteFantabulous frock, darl!I adore red/wht/blue,and you've accessorised it beautifully! Cute shoes!
Hair! Mine looks brillant today, but hasn't been playing nicely lately at all.I find that the more effort I put into it,the more awful it looks! Padding really helps me,as my hair is fine and sad arsed!
LOVE!!XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Great outfit, amazing dress and shoes! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the dress, and shoes.
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant dress! It's always nice to find something in your wardrobe you've forgotten about! :) xo
ReplyDeleteI swear your dresses just get better and better! I honestly didn't notice your hair, doesn't look bad at all.
ReplyDeleteI do like this outfit! All!
ReplyDeleteOh I join you on the 'crap at hair' dunce hat corner- I'm AWFUL!! (to the extent that I just swore in blogdom, that like never happens! I never swear in print!)
Gorgeous dress! I seriously cannot do hair either. Messy bun every.single.day.
ReplyDeleteI'm rubbish at hair, too. Yours looks lovely and with a fabulous frock & accessories like that leaving it simple's just fine. x
ReplyDeleteYou hair looks great! The dress is fab too. The easiest 'beehive-y' do I've found online is at http://www.rockalily.com/blog/quick-rockabilly-hairstyle-bandana.html - it is a rockabilly do but I've found if I change the band to a wide black one it looks classic 60s. It's pretty easy too!
ReplyDeleteOoh nice faux fur jacket! Love it. Thanks for the link to the shop.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you work colours on your outfits.
xx
I can't style my hair to save my life. I wish I could have a lesson in putting my hair up!
ReplyDeleteLove the colours and the coat, it's gorgeous.
Don't ask me, i did a beehive once, it took me about two hours and hardly looked like one at all, just a little bump!
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is super lovely though!
gorgeous dress! love the coat too. i'm alright at doing beehives after my 100th try, i'd recommend watching a tutorial on youtube & being supplied with lots of hairgrips, hairspray & muscles for backcombing!
ReplyDeletexoxo.
that dress is so lovely & cute, couldn't believe it when i read river island! wow. you look like you could be an extra in heartbeat in this outfit alex haha. (in a good way, honest!)
ReplyDeleteI cannot do hair either, i wish i could but i just have no talent with it.
ReplyDeleteLove your faux fur, its beautiful x
Alex! Your hair looks lovely! The only way I ever managed to get a beehive was via lots of back combing and some cheap imitation 'bump-its' from the poundshop.
ReplyDeleteLove the sixties vibe of the dress and matching shoes and bag, but I adore the fur coat, I'm so glad they're back in fashion, nothing keeps you warm like a (faux) fur coat xx
Well I think you hair is stunning Alex. It always looks lovely. As for you dress and coat well me likes. The colours on your dress are just whats needed on a dull winter day. And that coat should keep you snug and warm.
ReplyDeleteX x
Excellent 60s style! I'm total rubbish at hair styling, altho when I was about 14 I spent ages among all my hair clips creating random styles, ah to be young again! :)
ReplyDeletelove the colour combo! and i sympathise with the hair, i can never quite make mine look like how it does in my head :( x
ReplyDeleteThis fur coat is classic and lovely. Way to go, girl! : ) xo
ReplyDeleteJust to let you know that I am hosting an amazing giveaway you might be interested in. http://theyoungbridgetjones.blogspot.com/2011/11/giveaway-my-memories-suite.html
Lovely frock, bright and grrovy and cool! Vogue tells me the Sixties look is on-trend (been reading it in the hairdresser's, so I'm an expert now - ha!)
ReplyDeleteGreat faux fur - love that Kinky Melon!
Your hair looks just fine as it is! xxxxxxxx
There's something about this outfit that is almost Austin powers (in a good way!) - love it x
ReplyDeleteIt's because you aren't smiling numpty ;) I always look like a grumpy old woman unless I smile! This is why I could never be a model (amongst many, many ther reasons. Ahem). I adore that whole outfit, you look amazing xx
