My big brother is getting married in October. Too soon to start planning my outfit? I think not!
I already have my heart set on this dress:
50s halterneck polka dot dress by Vivien of Holloway.
As I've been reliably informed that someone my height will have to have a VoH frock shortened, it's best to get it bought in plenty of time, isn't it?
I'm much less certain on the subject of accessories. I think I'm fixed on the plan of making them black - I don't want to be head to toe in green, plus it'd be really hard to match specific shades without either going mad searching the shops or getting things specially dyed. It's the style that I can't decide on.
In the footwear department, do I go for something a bit frivolous like these Melissa Lady Dragon Westwood shoes seeing as it's a wedding?
Or maybe something a bit chunkier but still very cute, like this Shelly's pair?
I really like them both. Argh.
As the constant battle to cover up my awful upper arms rages on, I'm also trying to decide between sticking with the 50s theme and getting a Vivien of Hollway bolero:
Or looking for something else. I'm inclined to think that a cardi would be too casual and a jacket/blazer wouldn't work in terms of shape, but I'm struggling to visualise it.
Help!

I think that the first pair of shoes are perfect, very weddingy and super cute. Also I think the bolero is definitely the right way to go. I can completely see that working, especially with the slightly daintier shoes.
ReplyDeleteI have both of those pairs of shoes on my wishlist because you can't get many in a size 8 on Spartoo. Are you going to get a petticoat to go under the dress? might not need it shortened if the petticoat makes the dress go out instead of down xx
ReplyDeleteLove the dress. Love the bolero. Love the Shelly's shoes.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day! Looking forward to the photos1

This dress is drool-worthy! I personally like the second pair of shoes, but this is coming from someone who doesn't own a pair of heels that isn't chunky!
ReplyDeleteWhichever you decide, I'm sure you'll look beautiful :D

oh I'm wearing this for my wedding reception. I don't do white ni have a dark green version to marry in.
ReplyDeleteAnyway im wearing mine with red petticoat, red belt and flower. I have red miss l'fire dorothy shoes too. Very excited.
Anyway like you I have an upper arm thang and I found an etsy seller that sold lovely crochet shrugs that cover up but dont ruin the line and design of the dress. I found the voh bolero to big.

I love Vivien dresses (like Parfait armour- Ms Holloway will be making an appearance at my wedding too!)- I'd be tempted to do red shoes with this dress and red lipstick with a red pashmina or cardie maybe? But maybe I am mad!x
ReplyDeleteOh this is such a beautiful dress, it will look lovely on you! I love both of the pairs of shies but I think the VW are slightly nicer as they are a bit daintier!

This dress will look fabulous on you! I think the second pair of shoes may be a bit too clompy. If not black I was thinking possibly red as the others have said. Definitely a bolero or shrug.
ReplyDeleteI have this shrug for a similar dress. http://www.graceandflair.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=48
ReplyDeleteLove the polka dots and green!
I'm keen on purple with green when grey or black wont work
ReplyDeleteVivien of Holloway dresses are amazing - they make you feel like a million dollars (as the saying goes). I have a purple satin one bought for my husband's 'rock n roll' themed 30th birthday party 5 years ago but haven't found an occasion to wear it to since :-(
ReplyDeleteI keep dropping hints about birthday/Christmas presents in the form of tickets to the Goodwood Revival but no such luck yet! :-) x
It's a beautiful dress and the bolero would be perfect, I think I like the VW shoes best as the white bow ties it all in nicely... a red or turquoise clutch bag would be fab too!
ReplyDeleteOh, I do love a wedding
How tall are you? I'm 5'3" and just purchased a Queen of Holloway halter dress. It's a great length on me, especially with a petticoat underneath. I ended up getting a short-sleeved crocheted bolero sweater to wear with mine for the arm-camouflage.
ReplyDeleteOne thing you MUST do as soon as you try it on is twirl. They're incredibly twirlable!
