Raiding the Menswear Department

Monday, 17 September 2012

I haven't been into Primark for a while.  The Liverpool one is huge and it's not a particularly enjoyable place to shop.  Four huge floors of barely organised chaos, discarded clothes ankle deep around the rails, bored staff ... there are lots of places where I'd rather spend my money.  I keep seeing lovely Primark things on blogs but I can never work up the energy to battle through all the shoddy crap and go and find them for myself.

However, when I was in Leeds at the weekend I was taken to Primark by my pal Lee to provide opinions on jumpers.  I have good jumper opinions, even if I do say so myself.  He didn't buy anything in the end but I fell in love with this one and had to buy it.  Why be led by which department things are sold in?  If things are ace then I buy them: I don't care what the label says.

I'm almost breaking my own rule about shorts needing to be longer than the thigh bit on tights...in my defence, it's not that the shorts are that short, it's that the tights are very unstretchy.  I'm only 5'2, Primark, they shouldn't be hovering around my knees!

Jumper & tights - Primark
Shorts - Gap
Shoes - Dorothy Perkins
Rings - Dorothy Perkins (silver) and craft fair (quartz)

  1. A for Alex - love it! That first paragraph sums up exactly how I feel about Primark!

  2. the mens jewellery in Burton and Topman are always worth looking at too, find some great things there. I have lots of mens tshirts too, just have to roll the sleeves x

  3. I have a t-shirt from men's dept in Primark - they always have the funny stuff for the blokes.

The one in Preston is miniscule and although I am thankful for it I miss the Hull one - kind of the perfect size, 2 big floors which is more than enough. I worked in the Manchester one when I was at uni - it was one of the worst jobs of my life. And that was before it got really really really popular. Would hate to work there now!

  4. I've bought a couple of t-shirts from Primark men, seem to get a better fit and the quality can be better than the womens dept.
A for Alex! :) Love it.

  5. The joys of trying to shop in Primark... I think hitting it as soon as the doors open may be the only way to go. Agreed, the label can say what it likes! x

  6. I always try to find a 'good' Primark (example: Hammersmith is 2 floors and relatively calm, Harrow is similar but manic) and save myself for early morning shops before the teens hit it!

  8. I have loads of men's T-shirts, I just get fitted ones in a small, they have better designs and don't tend to be so flimsy. That 'a' jumper is great, I don't often shop in Primark but have one jacket from there which is an absolute staple of my Summer wardrobe and has been for about 3 years.

  11. I love a good initial and that jumper really suits you (not least because it's an A for Alex - no flies on me!). Also gladdened to see you rocking tights and shorts. I used to love this look but haven't managed it due to baby bump etc. Might have to dig mine out now.

PS I love your green, leafy pic (also love the way the green foliage is reflected in your silver ring!).

  12. The jumper is ace, and who cares who it's supposed to be for? Love that quartz ring too - I'm really into crystals.

I know people who've worked in Primark stores and it sounds awful. Apparently you end up just going round and round the one display, re-folding clothes and picking them up off the floor. Why do people abandon all manners and make such a mess in there? I must confess I'm not a Primark fan myself, but one of my friends used to swear by their late-night Friday openings - apparently it's always dead because people are out instead. She was talking about the Manchester one, but the Liverpool one might be similar?
