Socks 'n Stuff

Tuesday 9 November 2010

Evening all! I'm back from a long weekend away in Sheffield and Newcastle. I packed super light and didn't take a camera (not that my outfits were worth recording anyway) so blog posts had to wait until today. Had much fun though - we went to see our favourite theatre company, Frantic Assembly, and then to see Lee Mack do stand up, as well as drinking lots of delicious cider and watching football in 3D. That was a curious experience but we won, which is the main thing. Huzzah!

Anyway, back to what I intended to talk about today...

Given the title of this blog, I really don't talk about socks much. I am letting the side down slightly today by wearing a matching pair but at least they're featuring for once! I have a big thing for knee highs yet I struggle to wear them outside the house. This is probably a good thing - I'm too old to go around looking vaguely like a schoolgirl. Sometimes you just have to say sod it though, don't you? I can't think of another way to style them and there's no point them languishing in my sock drawer for ever more. They definitely got me looked at whilst I was in M&S at lunchtime but whether they were thinking "cute" or "mutton dressed as lamb", who knows?

  1. You look far too young to ever be referred to as "mutton" - wear your knee highs with pride, they give your outfit a really funky look. xxx

  8. You can wear them head held high, they look fab, thanks for this as I'm totally at a loss as to what to do with mine also. :)

I think Becks and Brad Pitt are the front runners for weird and wonderful hair...might just stick to the ladies. :)

  10. I think you look great, and i agree with simplyvixen, you're much too young to be called "mutton dressed as lamb". And anyway, if you feel good it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks! And you're the one with the cosy feet too so should feel smug!

  14. I vote "cute"!

I had this same dilemma recently, I think I was in Matalan and they had loads of knee high socks in there and I wanted to buy them all but then I was like. Really? When would you EVER wear these. I can't even say that I'd wear them in the house and if I did, they'd be under my jeans so you wouldn't see them. *sigh* Still really want a pair though.

  16. The socks look great, and you paired them with just the right shoes. The combination would also look fab with a blazer. Glad you took the plunge, I need to experiment more with this style!

  18. They're lovely! This morning I took two unmatching socks from the drawer as usual and then thought no! I'm going to wear knee high socks to work with a cute dress and no-one can stop me! Seeing as there was only me and my hamster in the flat I'm not sure who was planning on stopping me, but still, I'm glad I took a stand and wore them..xx

  19. Love those shoes, they look in near perfect condition. I must admit I don’t like it when people just wear knee high socks and no tights (although that would be quite impossible in this weather) I think you’ve got the look just right, matching the colours down to a tee. Great look, those boring old farts in M&S, were clearly style envious! x
