Grey & Gloomy

Wednesday 9 February 2011

Life is feeling very grey and monotonous at the moment. I blame February. Stupid month. I dressed to match my mood today. Grey, grey, grey...

Sorry for looking super narky in all these photos. I realised when pulling together all the outfit pictures for the previous post that I miss taking outdoor photos and I really love my trusty old brick wall as a backdrop, so out I headed on my lunchbreak. It was COLD, hence the cross expression.

Shorts - Gap sale
Wedges - River Island sale
Tshirt (not seen) - Jigsaw, via charity shop
Elbow patch jumper - Christmas present - H&M (see, I love the rust one so much I had to get this colour too!)
Coat - Tu
Earrings - Dorothy Perkins sale...I think...
Ring - Christmas present - made by MerCurious

It's a funny outfit this one. I feel like it doesn't photograph terribly well because the jumper is really unstructured and the shorts are looking baggier than last time (does this mean my thighs are shrinking? Hope so!). Anyway I love all the individual parts of it so I'm going to keep wearing it and you'll just have to take my word that it looks better in real life, m'kay?

Plus there's a little bit of new(ish) shoe lust going on. I have a feeling that the law of ankle straps should probably apply to these wedges - ie don't wear anything that cuts your feet off at the ankle as it makes your legs look stumpier. Frankly I really don't care. I love them and they are incredibly comfortable. I know I sometimes say "oh these heels are comfy" and what I mean is, by the standards of heels they're good but my feet will hurt after a while because that's just what heels do. Not with these though. They're better than most of my flats.

  2. I'm having a bit of a love affair with wedges at the moment too- they seriously are so comfy! Love the jumper, I wish I'd bought one now :P xx

  3. I don't think they are the same as ankle straps, because although the stop at your ankles they are much looser so you can see the shape of them. And you are looking up at the camera, hurrah! (nb but no more foldy arms for photos, it makes you look grumpy and we can't see your outfit properly ;) xx

  4. Oh I couldn't do without ankle straps, I can't walk in shoes that aren't properly secured! I love your brick wall and your jacket, shame it was colder than it looks! Hope you feel a bit peppier soon xx

  6. Less of the sad face, Alex, Spring is on it's way or at least that's what Jacob, my tortoise, fresh out of hibernation would have me believe.
Love those ankle boots and those shorts AND the brick wall. xxx

  10. I completely agree, go away cold weather! Funnily enough though, January was my blue month and I'm starting to feel a bit better now. Maybe it's because the sun's actually started to come out here in MK. By the way, rocking the boots Alex! :D xxx

  11. Oh Alex, this week is turning out to be quite rubbish isnt it?

I got locked out of my flat today and had to fork out £70 to get back in :(

On the up side, you look fabulous. That jumper with those boots looks great, and you got a ring from Mercurios! I love them :) x

  17. The shoe boot thingies (sorry my fashion vocabulary is appalling) are wonderful. I am a total sucker for elbow patches at the moment. Viva geek chic xx

  18. Dearest Alex, it has been a very grey couple of mornings although we've had some sunshine in London later on.

I love grey but it doesn't suit me unfortunately. I like today's look. The shorts and boots are fab. I look like a miserable old bag in most of my photos. I have to sort through and post the least moody looking ones.

I'm waiting for the postman to arrive with your little present, a welcome bit of colour xx

  23. Sorry life's feeling a bit grey. You should holiday to Perth, WA to perk it up. Serious :D
Oh and I don't think those booties make legs look stumpy at all - if anything they make your ankles look super defined and skinny! Hot legs!!! I love all the grey but feel like you need a bright coloured scarf to perk it up - I'm just craving scarf weather!!!

  24. First, I love all of these pieces. I agree that your shorts are looking loose. That is by your design though right? Maybe you can get them tailored in because they really are nice.
Second, wedges are the most comfortable shoes! Seriously. I love wearing them.

  25. I think grey can look lovely, I was going to buy a pair of grey tights the other day but decided I didn’t have any grey clothes to pair them with, I think I am quite envious now!
I think you pulled it off perfectly and the boots look so incredibly comfy x

  33. Pffft, nothing wrong with lack of colour! Especially if it's for work, right? I find it too that wedges are a perfect compromise, as they are heels but are super comfy :)

  34. Aw cheer up! Although this looks great, if you're feeling glum you should wear some bright colours! :D

  35. Screw shoe rules! As it happens I think these wedges look great on you and, in fact, I think you look great full stop. Plus, it tickles me mightily that someone else also suffers the curse of the grumpy face outfit post. Honestly, I just never know what face to make! Haha!

  36. The weather may be grey, but you're looking very chic.

  37. I love grey & navy together & the wedges look great they don't shorten your legs at all! I have that elbow patch jumper, but still searching for the rust one, think they've all gone now :( Don't be glum, the sun is starting to appear more frequently (imbetween all the rain!), although I do agree that its mightily hard to look cheery when out in the freezing cold ;)
