Sparkle

Thursday 25 August 2011

Alex, why are you wearing a party frock to work?

Funny you should ask! So, I got home from Edinburgh, opened up the wardrobe to put some clothes away and went "Huh?"

"Where are all my clothes? HAS SOMEONE STOLEN ALL MY CLOTHES?!"

"Oh. Bugger. I have killed my wardrobe."

I don't dare try and get anything out of the chaos pile because I know it will just explode all over me and I'll be trapped in a sea of ridiculous vintage shirts, tons of dresses and a veritable rainbow of cardigans. I've been living in jeans and tshirts all week but now I've run out of those too.

Party frock? Why the hell not.

And let's not be bashful when it comes to footwear. What goes better with a party frock than glam rock style shoes? I dunno. If I have any better options then they're buried alive in my wardrobe. I'll try and rescue them over the weekend.

Sadly this pair might have to go. Even with the aid of those weird heel strip things, they're still far too big. Curse those pesky old style IC sizes. If anyone is a size 6.5 or 7 and wants them, give me a shout. Would rather avoid ebay if posible.

Dress - Ghost, a present from the wonderful Christina
Shoes - Irregular Choice via ebay
Earrings - New Look

  3. You can't beat a bit of sparkle! Love the shoes, as always. I think IC and think of you now.
My old wardrobe did that sooo many times, usually at night to frighten the life outta me. :)

  4. Our coat cupboard under the stairs has an evil habit of doing that!
I love sparkles during the day and that dress is a beauty, fits you to perfection and teaming it with those blue tights is inspired. x

  6. That's class!! Did you get any comments from your coworkers? :) I think we bloggers should have like a secret mission of 'wear partyfrock to work friday' or something and pretend that's just how we dress normally in our leisure, cuz we're so cool and glam :)

  7. Darn, I know just how you feel. How much are you wanting for the shoes (not that I need them or could even match them to anything I own. But they are very pretty) xx

  8. I wasn't looking at the lack of clothes in the first wardrobe photo I was looking at the lovely brown hat!
    I quite like Filipa's suggestion.

  10. Oh no! I remember that happening to me too a few years ago, took ages to sort through everything. Wasn't bold enough to wear a party frock instead though! Great dress and love your tights. By the way I think I have the same grey hat in that second picture :)

  11. I LOVE your slightly OTT for work. The dress is lovely and what a shame the shoes are too big. I am forever finding ill fitting footwear and not knowing what to do.

  15. Oh no! My coathanger bar thing in the wardrobe bows precariously and I dread the day this happens! Excellent opportunity for getting your glad rags on though :)

  18. I love this outfit. Why should glittery bits be kept for partying? The colour of those tights is fab.
Once, at work, I had the'domino effect' of a whole load of dress rails full of costumes fall over on me! Thought I was gonna suffocate!!
Just think of the fun of finding new clothing combos/try-ons as you put it all back! Not a bad way to spend a weekend! Have fun!

  19. People say what matters is the beauty on the inside…Then why is it that the good looking girls go for the good looking boys and vica versa?

  24. Ooh what a shock. Wouldn't it be great if walk-in wardrobes were compulsory. Sparkly jewellery was perfect to give your party dress a lift - great choice x

  25. Nothing wrong with dressing up for work sometimes. Life only comes around once so adding something fun to the working day wouldn't go amiss, I don't think. I love the dress and the shoes go so well. I think I forget the longest day is in June too, I'm always hoping for stronger heat even when its August. xxx

  26. Love all the sparkle! I've had a few wardrobe collapses like this... the only answer is a stainless steel bar to hang things from! x

  27. Oh dear, sorry, I laughed! Only this happened to me and my sister when we used to share a bedroom and this happened to our rail. My sister was vexed but she doggedly hung everything back up and just as she'd finished, it collapsed again! She screamed, I laughed (and she chased me out the room!)
I think Filipa's idea of dress up friday is a genius idea- I actually do make an effort to wear dresses on Friday (my kids always say I look nice! :) )
Love your outfit and I adore your Glinda from the wizard of Oz IC shoes. WHY OH WHY do I have such large feet, I would have loved to buy them from you! if you ever develop size 8 feet and feel the need to be thrilanthropic, do let me know! :-)

  28. Hahahahaaa, the poor wardrobe!!You have killed it with the weight of fabulous frocks!!! Good thing you were away, the sound of it collapsing would have given you a hell of a fright in the middle of the night!!!
Love the sparkles, sparkles for work=hell yes! Maybe we should have a "Sparkle at Work" day once a month??
Don't worry,I don't think you're a abd blogger at all,it's a busy life and a gal can't have her face jammed in her computer ALL the time!!
    LOVE!!

  31. Hey Alex, just had to respond to your comment on my last post, about losing your crafty mojo and feeling like having a blog doesn't necessarily give you incentive to complete projects. I always see you as more of a fashion blogger anyway and I think in your case your blog has encouraged you to step out of your comfort zone and try new things (those amazing red shorts being a prime example!) - so your blog works for you in its own way :)

Also, I was at Newcastle races yesterday and had a bet on Little Jimmy Oddsox as it reminded me of you and I know you like horses. I won £5.60! :) xx

  32. Well, you look lovely and that outfit is so fun, so work better not complain! I feel for you in your clothes-in-a-scary-pile misery - I can never bring myself to brave the mess when that happens!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Too bad about your wardrobe! Oh my! I've had explosions like that before. They take so much longer to clean up than they took to get in that state.
I adore that cloche hat you have peaking out in that picture. Can't wait until the weather allows you to wear it for us.

  34. Oh! Your dress is beautiful. What a shame about your shoes, but they will go to one lucky lady. Sadly, my trotters are teeny size 4.
I used to have a clothes rail that was always collapsing, so I know the feeling. x
