It's All About Me

Thursday, 2 September 2010

Not having a good clothes day today, or in fact a good clothes week. So please do excuse the lack of outfit pics and permit me to indulge in something a little less taxing.* Vix posted this tag a couple of days ago and asked anyone that fancied it to take part. Well, I am a sucker for answering questions so here goes!

*it was intended to be the less taxing option. After battling the laptop for 3 hours I'm not so sure! See answer 9 for my current state of mind.

1) What is your favourite time of day?
I am a complete night owl. I cannot bear mornings - I set 6 different alarms and usually turn them off and go straight back to sleep. So I'm generally wide awake till really quite late and I'm very fond of the 11pm-1am ish time slot. I write my diary, listen to late night radio or watch dvds, read some blogs or a good book and generally potter about in my bedroom. Nice and peaceful.

2) Where and when did you meet the love of your life?
I haven't met him yet. The ex doesn't count - the love of my life will be someone who loves me back.

3) What three words would your friends outside the blogging world use to describe you?

I consulted Lee on this one and after initially saying "cheeky, rude and obnoxious" (I hope he was joking!), he settled on "honest, thoughtful and reliable" which is much better! I'm always intrigued to know how other people would describe me.

We were drrrrrrunk when these were taken.

4) What country would you like to visit and why?
It's probably not the most usual pick but I'd like to go to Iceland. I really want to see the Northern Lights and ride an Icelandic pony.

5) What is your favourite dish to cook?
It's not a main course, that's for sure. Despite doing all the cooking in our house, my preference is always to bake. I especially like the few weeks running up to Christmas when I seem to spend my entire life in the kitchen making treacle toffee, peppermint creams, stained glass biscuits, vanilla fudge, shortbread and whatever else I fancy giving to people as gifts. There's something superbly satisfying about making treacle toffee. It's a tie between that and a sort of flapjacky oaty cherry/choc chip/raisin/brown sugar laden delight known in our house as Energy Bars. I'll share the recipe some time.

Sadly not photos of my own efforts. I can't cope with a camera AND cook.

6) Salt or sugar?
Have you read the previous answer? Sugar! I have a terrible sweet tooth which I've had to really battle whilst on the diet. Luckily I'm allergic to dairy so choc/ice cream/most puds are off the menu permanently and thus less of a temptation but I'm still not safe to be left around an open bag of sweets. How I love sweeties. A Quarter Of is one of my favourite websites - I can particularly recommend the Irn Bru humbugs and Treacle Toffee Bangers.

7) What are your must have make-up or beauty items?
I like my Olay moisturiser and MAC Select Moisturecover works so much better on the under-eye area than Touche Eclat ever did. MAC mascara X is an ever present in my makeup bag as well - I look so much better with a bit of mascara on. I'll narrow it down to two things though. First up, it would be my tweezers. I love plucking my eyebrows. I can feel the beggars growing and it gives me great satisfaction to whip out the stupid hairs. Secondly, lots and lots of water. I hardly ever get spots and I'm sure it's due to how much water I drink.

8) What are your favourite flowers?
Freesias. I'm very fond of alliums too though and honesty, although that isn't technically a flower, it's a seed pod. Just nothing obvious or too in your face. Should you ever wish to send me flowers, don't send roses.

9) What do you think are your worst vices, honestly?
Temper. I am a right moody bitch at times. Slightly OCD-ish flapping when plans are altered. Laziness. The fact that I would often rather read a book than do anything else (to be honest, I don't see this as a vice but it does annoy other people). I'm very stubborn. Also prone to outbursts of irrational rage when faced with frustrating technology - I can often be heard yelling "Why won't you EFFING WORK?!!"

I often wish I could recreate this scene from Office Space.

10) At what time of your life were you happiest and why?
I think it's now. Other points in my life have been very happy (aged about 12-14 and spending my entire life at the stables, third year at uni and living with an amazing bunch of friends) but right now I'm the most confident I've ever been and that really helps. It sounds shallow to say that losing weight has made me happy but it has (I've talked about it here) I love my job, my friends are brilliant, my family are wonderful. Life is good.

  1. I'm so with you on visiting Iceland- I'd LOVE to go. When I worked as cabin crew, we flew to Rejkjavik, and many's the time the pilots would call us in to the flight deck for a quick glimpse of the Northern Lights. I was too much of a young heathen to appreciate it then, so I'd love to go "properly".
Secondly, WHY have I never been told about Irn Bru humbugs before?! OMG!!

  2. Oh I really want to go to the UK and see Ireland too! Shall we go together? :p I am a sweet tooth through and through... chocolate is my vice.

I'm also stubborn, very stubborn and prone to fits of rage at various inanimate objects. Maybe a trip together wouldn't work out :p

  14. Dear Alex, Firstly, Thank you so much for your gorgeous comments at mine, I really appreciate it and so does Fee, she's absolutely thrilled with the response. Lots from Facebook and emails too. She deserves it!

How lovely to learn more about you. I too am a night person. I want to eat everything you like to cook... please share flapjacky/energy bar recipe. I'd also love to see the Northern lights. I was horse mad from 5-16 I had horses and spent so much time with them but unfortunately my interest in boys took over! I hope you're having a fabulous weekend, much love, C xx

  16. great answers Alex - it's lovely to get to know more about the people behind the blogs. I took vix up on this too and like you I had to ask for help to find the three words others would use to describe me. I asked my middle daughter and she said "pain in the a*se" - I don't believe her though cos she obviously can't count to three ;D
