Item number two from the weekend's vintage shopping purchases: a patterned shirt. And what a pattern it is! There's something very Lowry-esque about it.

Jeans - Dorothy Perkins
Shirt - vintage (I think West German? The label is definitely foreign)
Wedges - Dolcis, present
Bangle - pinched from Mum's jewellery box

First of all, do excuse the giant black socks faux-pas I'm making in these photos. We are having an extremely unpredictable sort of day weather-wise. I had to dash out in a break in the pouring rain to quickly snap these photos and it was just too cold to go bare footed so emergency socks had to be brought into use. In my defence, no-one can see them under my desk... It's also too cold to have any sort of bare arms on display, so I'm currently huddled in a work fleece jacket. Stylish it is not.

Interesting fact for you all - I have never worn flared jeans before today. Never. I bought these a few months ago in a fit of madness, encouraged by surprisingly flattering changing room lighting. Despite being petite length, they are too long for everyday wear and need wedges or platforms of some description so the time has just never seemed quite right to wear them. This shirt seemed to be crying out for something super 70's to go with it though so I brought them out for their first airing today. I'd like them to be a darker wash as I'm feeling thigh conscious in them in a way that I never am in my indigo skinnies, but they're kinda fun. I shall channel my inner Donna and stomp around a bit. I'm sure I'll grow to love them.

  1. Alex, you are just trying all these fun new things! How great :) I love all the print filled posts, and yaay for trying a bit of 70s flare, it will come useful with all these 70s obsessed shops and designers :)

  2. Flared jeans are definitely a good look on you Alex!

I too am guilty of sticking on a pair of socks with sandals so my feet don't freeze at work!

  3. I've been waiting to see this shirt and it doesn't disappoint - how fab is it please?! I think the jeans look brilliant, very flattering!

You need to get some Snickers Cake in your life my dear (not related to how you look - I realise that seems a little odd coming after talking about your jeans!) xxx

  4. I LOVE those sort of fun prints! The other day I bought a Tshirt just because it was printed with a Venetian scene of gondolas!

Love, love, love the look. Even the socks. They add a great twist to the outfit that makes it fun. The shirt is a gem of a find.

I've not been thrifting for ages.. Think I shall aim to get some done in a week or so. That is if I can use my legs after this walk! Thanks for all your best wishes by the way. I can honestly say I am pooing my pants! (and thats the polite version!)

  6. Isn't it funny how vintage shopping id SO much more fun than normal high street trawling? I love both your finds. The jeans are definitely a go-er, They'd look equally lovely with a nice strappy top and girlie wedges if and when we ever see the sun this "summer"!

  7. That is one gorgeous shirt. I love the print. I'm wearing flared jeans today which got very wet in the pouring rain this morning going to work (they're so long, they trail on the ground) and I've been sitting here at work with wet trouser legs. Not a happy bunny....

Btw, Florence's mum is a really nice woman.

  14. Ohh I love a bit of Lowry. One because they are pretty amazing pictures but too because it reminds me of the Aussie's cartoons (I think I promised you a link to them before? http://football.guardian.co.uk/Games/Cartoon/Index/0,6243,,00.html )

You are looking seriously gorgeous at the moment. And I mean that in a sincere way, rather than a slightly vacuous but still kind 'love your blog, you look lovely way'

  15. I tried to leave a message whilst watching Ascot, but realised that I'd opened IE and not Firefox, so that ended up a non-starter.
Came home Sunday and just lost the will! Too knacked and then seeing Phil in Brum left me feeling a bit 'ruff'!
Anyhoo...how good was it to meet up? It was brilliant to meet you, must do it again...SOON! The blouse looks great, jeans too! And I can't get over how good the 'jewels' look in the previous post. Looking forward to seeing that cutie dress from COW, that was gorg!
    Big hugs,

Thank you for my comment - I was in Primark at the weekend & mine definitely did NOT have a cute strawberry ring, because believe me when I say, I would've snapped it up! Gutted :( Will have to keep an eye out I guess.

  22. oh the joy of super-long flares......I remember wearing them as a teenager and when it rained you'd be wet to the knee!! They look great....wear them at will......and the shirt is uber-cute!!

  23. Oh my gosh! i don't think I've ever seen a print this awesome. You look GREAT and the flared jeans look amazing on you! I don't think I've ever actually worn flares, either.... hum! Maybe I should!

  24. I think the flares are super-flattering! My only problem with wearing them myself is that they require ironing, which stretchy skinnies do not. But maybe that's just my extreme laziness!

  32. That shirt is amazing! When you posted the picture of your vintage haul I assumed it was a scarf, because the print was just too amazing. I've never seen anything like it on an actual item of clothing.
