I would quite like to kick life in the face at the moment. Preferably whilst wearing steel toe-capped boots. It's been a tough couple of weeks - stressful and tiring and full of death, grief and an assortment of petty annoyances.
At the risk of sounding either completely trite or like an utter Pollyanna, sometimes appreciating the small things really does help make a difference and put a smile back on your face. Things like going for a walk with your family:
At the risk of sounding either completely trite or like an utter Pollyanna, sometimes appreciating the small things really does help make a difference and put a smile back on your face. Things like going for a walk with your family:
Larking about inside a restored canal boat:
Walking around a bend and discovering that quintessentially English thing, a cricket match:
Having a drink at a canalside pub:
Eating Yorkshire Mixtures:
Playing with the brother's kittenses. They've got so big!:
And generally being silly:
You do cut a dash with a 'tach, I must say!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear things aren't going particularly well at the moment. Giving you a huge cyber hug.
If there's ever anything I can do to help, I'm pretty much always only a tweet away. I'm a pretty good listener!
xxx Maddie
the little things make such a diff - as does Stella Cider :)
ReplyDeleteHope things pick up soon
xx
Really sorry to hear things have been so difficult of late - I am glad that you have let yourself still recognise & enjoy the small things that are good & make you happy. I am terrible at forgetting all about those things as soon as anything bad comes along..
ReplyDeleteWe are jumper twins in that last pic - that makes me smile :)

Cider, my love! I want to go down the Thames like J, Harris, George, and Montmorency.

Hope you are alright Alex, sounds like things have been pretty rough recently. I think a good walk does wonders for the soul. As does cider.
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself x
Sorry to hear things have got rough for you :(
ReplyDeleteI am a massive fan of country walks, provided there are no cows. I used to want a stick on moustache when I was younger. Ironically I have a recurrent tash that I really don't want. Life!
Does.Your.Brother.LIVE ON A NARROWBOAT? With cats?
ReplyDeleteSorry you're having such a cruddy time. Seems like the general co-census is cider is a good thing!
Z xx
Sorry to hear of your current problems - a virtual hug from me too. Hope our swap cheers you up, when we get going with it. x
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that things are difficult for you at the moment, another virtual hug on the way. Good to hear though that you are looking for solace in the simple pleasures of life - well and cider!. You do sort of suit the tach, but maybe not for everyday eh!!
ReplyDeleteHope things perk up soon! That second picture down made me laugh quite hard.
ReplyDelete(I also think you suit the moustache. Will it be reappearing next outfit post?)
K xx
Cats, walking, family and cider do tend to help when you are feeling a little down. Dare you to wear the 'tache into work xx
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you've been going though a rough patch. Canal boats and penny sweets seem like a perfect (albeit temporary) distraction.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! I love that candy! =)

The sweets look rather yummy too, I've never heard of 'Yorkshire Mixtures' before. I hope things start to get better for you soon, chin up chick ! xxxxxx
ReplyDeleteSorry things are bit tough at the minute, hope your day with the family helped. Scrummy looking sweets though!

ReplyDeleteIt's good to have your family round you to cheer you up.

Firstly let me send you a big hug!
ReplyDeleteAs the saying goes, when life throws you lemons make lemonade!
We all have crappy low days but as you say, focus on the little things tha make you smile and everything seems brighter.

Aint that the truth! What's Stella Cidre like, I haven't had it yet (though with this weather the corner shop beckons...my 'balcony' is the shared access to all the flats but I can pretend I'm outside a Normandie cafe in the sunshine LOL.
ReplyDeleteI've never had yorkshire mixtures either, they look goooood.
I’m sorry to hear things have been tough lately Alex, life really does seem to have its ups and downs for everybody. I hope things brighten up soon.
ReplyDeleteThose kittens are the cutest, I think they grow up so quickly, it doesn’t seem a moment ago since we brought Jasper home, I remember having to help him climb up onto the bed, now he’s pretty much adapted to climbing on just about anything…doors, wardrobes, cupboards anything you name it! x
I know exactly how you feel, hope it all goes away soon! Awesome pics btw, now craving beer and random sweets... :)
ReplyDeleteSorry things have been so rough Alex xo
ReplyDeleteSorry you're having a tough time, those small things so help for a while x

ReplyDeleteGlad you're staying positive in the face of your stressful time at the moment. You do somehow manage to look charming with a moustache!

Ah, so sorry to hear that things are tough right now. Positivity is the way to go- no appologies neccesary for that one- you're entitled to find your smile somehow. Looks like fun times were had. xxx
ReplyDeleteI've just found your blog through my bloggy friend, Gem at Treasures from the Cherry Tree, and I love it! Your raunchy pics a few posts ago are GORGEOUS, you look seriously lovely. And you even look cute with a tash, ha! Well done on losing the weight, you did good.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine always calls me a Pollyanna but I don't care, when life's crappy it's good to appreciate the small things.
Nicki xx
Ah Alex, so sorry to hear things are so rubbish, these small things are enough to make anyone smile though! Stella Cider? How have I missed that one?! xxx
ReplyDeleteSorry that you have been having a difficult time. Hopefully all these messages from the blogosphere will help along with those walks and canal boats. Sending you lots of happy thoughts. x

I know the feeling and I couldn't agree more. A walk, a break and laughter do help. I hope things get better soon and thanks for the comment, the wildflowers were very bright and pretty. xxx
ReplyDeleteI hope things get better for you soon. But yes for now take comfort in the fact that you do look pretty good sporting a 'tach xx
ReplyDeleteThe little things in life are sometimes all we really need :)

Great uplifting post :) thanks for sharing x
ReplyDeleteDearest Alex, you're absolutely right, it has been dreary and you have to appreciate the small things. Love the tache! xx
ReplyDeleteAppreciating the small things is exactly what's gotten me through. I think mine and The Guy's mantra has become "It's the little things..."
ReplyDeleteFor me it's something as little as a postcard or a BBM of something stupid. The latest one was today- sweets for my inevitable delays at the hospital tomorrow. Not Yorks Mix though. WHERE did you get them. Since the only sweet shop I know of shut down, no idea where I can get them.
