aka Alex Gets New Glasses

Do you like them?

I have been after a pair of green specs for ages but they are surprisingly difficult to find. Even though these look a bit blue, they are in fact green. Thanks to the wonders of Twitter, a very good Glasses Direct deal and the lovely Tamsin, these were mine for a shade over £25. Bargain, yes?

They are quite bold.

I am a very long way out of my comfort zone with this size and style of frame (slight shades of Su Pollard/Timmy Mallett?) but for that price and for a backup pair, I thought I might as well take a risk. After all, if you're going to wear bright green specs, there's no point being subtle about the size of them, is there?

Surprisingly hard to take a nice photo of me wearing them though. It's either silly face (as above), hidey face (as below) or minging face (not appearing on the blog thank you very much).

  1. Look great :) I have some subtle purple GD glasses, and love them, but suspect that I should be going to the optician for another test right about now. Btw, I know it isn't really what your blog's about, but I've been intrigued by your sidelong references to your work, and wondered how you got into it?

  2. Ooh I love them, they are the best colour! I've been forced to stop wearing my lenses so much therefore I've gotten a bit bored of my glasses... I shall be checking out this site! What do you do if you get them and they dont suit you tho? The optician always chooses my glasses, I'm positive I dont suit any pair! :)

  3. These are fab, when I next go to the opticians I'm going to get a copy of my perscription so I can buy some different glasses(probably quite a few pairs) and then I can match them to my outfits :-) I don't mind getting glasses that your not going to wear everyday when they aren't the high street price, £25 is a bargain xxx

  4. Oh I love them Alex! If I wore glasses I would probably have lots of different colours & styles to change on whims. It must be great to be able to change your look so easily!

  8. What a coincidence because I'm looking for new glasses at the moment. I've just discovered that you can upload a photo of yourself on the Specsavers website and try glasses on. It's great because now I can actually see what I look like without having my nose touching the mirror in the shop!
I don't fancy buying glasses online though because mine always have to be adjusted because they're wonky (or rather my ears are).

  12. I LOVE them!! Gorgeous colour and the shape is great on you.
I got some specs from GD a little while back. My sister hates them and calls them geek googles but I probably wear glasses more than contacts now so they are doing something right.
    xx

  19. My lesser worn pair (as I bent the nose-pad) are turquoise on one hald and broze on the other. I forget which way round. One up one down.
Adore your new pair, they are bold but you can def make them look right. I however would look like a plonker.
    And bargain!

  24. They're very cool. It is hard to get used to new glasses isn't it? I get the whole 'oh god I've made completely the wrong choice' then I wear them anyway just to see then I end up loving them!

  25. Those glasses are brilliant. I love the colour. I have a pair of heavy-framed, grey Gok for specsavers glasses that I love but are quite statement.
