Tagtastic

Thursday, 16 February 2012

I am not generally fond of the awards and tags that consist of listing things about yourself. I dunno, they just seem a bit lacking in imagination. I make an exception for this one because, yes, I have to do a bit of listing but then I get to answer Perdita's brilliant questions and that's much more fun!

So the rules are:

1) You must post 11 random things about yourself;
2) Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post;
3) Create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer;
4) Go to their blog and tell them you've tagged them;
5) No stuff about 'you're tagged if you're reading this' - legitimately tag people.

So, my 11 things:

1) I do not fancy Brad Pitt at all. The one time he has looked halfway decent was in that episode of Friends and I think that was more due to the nice navy jumper than anything else.

2) When I buy new clothes, I like to hang them on the picture rail in my room for a little while so I can admire them.

3) My favourite film of all time is Mary Poppins and I will not hear a word said against it.

4) I sometimes get 2 and N mixed up when writing things down. I have no idea why.

5) I don't like red roses.

6) Or diamonds.

7) I have a pathological loathing of the word moist.

8) I like to liven up long car journeys by making the noises of animals that we drive past. All together now... *spot a sheep* *BAAAAAAAA* Quite tricky when driving past a field of llamas.

9) I feel really uncomfortable in Topshop.

10) I am fangirlish about the following things: The West Wing, Henry Cavill and mini party rings.

11) I'm not on Facebook. Never have been. Don't want to be.

And the questions set for me:

1) What is your favourite flavour of crisps?

The perils of having a milk allergy: there are a surprising amount of crisp flavours that I can't eat. I mostly scoff ready salted Walkers Baked. Very boring, I know. Not necessarily my favourite flavour but the least likely to make me feel ill.

2) What is the funniest photo of you that you still own?

The demented bride look is tres chic, non?

3) What would your dream home be?

Something Georgian. Big enough for all my books. In an ideal (lottery winning world), something like this would be my dream and I'd have a pony in a paddock at the bottom of the garden. If I won enough to buy a nice house but not enough to give up work, I would truly love a house on Hope Place.

4) What are you great at? (Keep it clean. Or don't. Whatever)

Oh the temptation to not keep it clean. My dad reads this blog though and I don't want to shock him.

I am great at reading. Also list making. I am amazing at sounding polite and helpful on the phone whilst rolling my eyes dramatically. I like to think I'm quite good at being a friend too.

5) Who (fictional character) would you go to the pub with? (Extension: pint or bender? Why?)

Bertie Wooster. Bender. Why? Well he's rich and well mannered, so I wouldn't be buying the drinks. He's hilarious, so we'd spend the evening laughing and getting into scrapes. Plus I would naturally be transported back in time for this bender so I could wear something fabulous and end up dancing on a table in a glamorous nightclub.

6) Which takeaway is best?

Chinese.

7) Explain your plan for the Zombie Apocalypse.

I haven't got one! Oh shit, best think of something quick... Um, find some fellow survivors and put my Girlguiding survival skills to good use? We could take over a house in the countryside with a large library and I'd be quite happy. I'm quite handy (good with an air rifle, can cook out in the woods, faff with tents etc) so I reckon I'd be useful to have around.

8) Which terrible, terrible fashion do you secretly kind of hanker after?

One word: Clueless

9) Tell me your motto.

I don't really have one. Perhaps (to steal a phrase from Dory) - just keep swimming. I find most things are bearable if you're prepared to slog through them.

10) Who is your favourite villain?

Jadis, the White Witch from the Chronicles of Narnia.

11) Describe your favourite pair of shoes.

Irregular Choice.
Suede.
Green.
Teal.
Brown.
Gold piping.
Beautiful.

My 11 questions are:

1) Are you a morning or a night person?
2) Have you ever stolen anything? (be honest, I won't set the law on you)
3) What is your favourite word?
4) What can't you live without?
5) Who/what do you have an irrational dislike of?
6) Where is your favourite place to eat out?
7) Who is the cleverest person you know?
8) What was the last film that you saw at the cinema? Was it any good?
9) What is your guilty tv pleasure?
10) Where did you last go on holiday?
11) What makes you go "GAHHHHHHHHHHHHH"?

Wednesday Wafflings

Wednesday, 1 June 2011

Thank you for all your wonderful comments on my last post. Unfortunately it's not good news - Beth's condition has deteriorated and they weren't able to operate, so she's been transferred closer to home for palliative care. It's unbearably sad.

Please don't think I'm being a hard-hearted bitch for trying to carry on pretty much as normal. I know it might seem excessively hypocritical of me to start off with a paragraph like that and then talk about utterly frivolous stuff but I function best when I keep myself busy and don't let myself dwell on things and something this awful, I just can't think about for too long. Falling apart won't do anyone any good. I need the distraction and yes, the frivolity, of blogging.

I've been tagged with a couple of awards recently: the Stylish Blogger award from Gem at Treasures From The Cherry Tree and the Versatile Blogger award from Hazel at World Of Joy. Thanks ever so much ladies! Both of them seem to be of the "5 things about yourself" type and I'm sure you're all bored of me revealing facts about myself by now, so I thought I'd bend the rules and show you 5 recent charity shop purchases instead. I've barely shopped in May, so these were little treats to myself at the weekend.

1) Jolly nice H&M top, BNWT. H&M sizing being what it is, it's a little snug, although not in a bad way. It doesn't show off rolls of flab or anything. I think I'm just not very used to form-fitting clothes yet.

2) Primark dress. It's rather more boobalicious than I foresaw as the bodice part is essentially just two triangles but I'm sure I can do something with it. Even if it's not wearable in current form, £1.99 is not bad for the fabric at least.

3) Knitting bag. Oh the cuteness of the chunky wooden handles. I love my local YMCA shop. This and the fabric below weren't priced up so I asked the woman on the till and she went "oh, just £1.49 for both." Result!

4) Vintage fabric. Mental but rather tremendous, yes? I'm not sure there's enough to make a dress with but hopefully enough for a totally in-your-face skirt.

5) And this glorious book. I adore the Anne books and even though I've already got a paperback edition of this one, who could resist a 1913 hardback edition with beautiful colour plates inside? Not me. Especially not when it was on the half price shelf.

In very important shopping related news, I have got my Olympics tickets! On Monday 30th July 2012 I'll be in Greenwich Park watching the cross-country stage of the three-day eventing. I am more excited than I can possibly describe.

An Award

Thursday, 14 April 2011

The Kreativ Blogger award has been flashing around recently and a couple of people have been kind enough to tag me with it. Thank you very much to lovely Llara from Little Scribbler and equally lovely Elise at Foof and Faff and I hope I haven't missed anyone else who might have tagged me.

Supressing an inward shudder at the spelling of the award title, here goes! Ten facts about me coming right up:

1. I like awards but I am confused by where they appear from in the first place, and why so many of them are of the "list 10 things about yourself" variety. I am pondering creating my own award to dish out to fab people. If I do, it won't be a list and you can be damn sure I'll spell the title properly.

2. I hate people touching my hair. Seriously hate it. It's not that I'm worried about people messing it up (ha, it's a mess anyway!), I just loathe having my head and shoulders touched. I'm getting my hair cut on Saturday and I am dreading it.

3. And on a related note, I also hate ringing up and booking/ordering things. I bribed Ffion into pretending to be me and ringing up to book the hair appointment because I am such a huge wuss.

4. I like to sing Christmas carols out of season. I led a rousing rendition of Good King Wenceslas in the office yesterday.

5. I am so bored of vampires, werewolves and zombies turning up in everything at the moment. You aren't going to do any better than Angel and Spike so please stop trying.

6. I'd make a terrible chambermaid as I have no stamina when it comes to changing bedding. I often have to stop, have a rest and fire off a moany "I would rather sleep on the FLOOR than carry on changing these sheets" text to a friend. Clearly I need a man (or a maid) to do it for me.

7. The best sweets in the whole wide world (and yes, I am quite the connoisseur) are white Haribo jelly men.

8. My snuggle clothing of choice is my big red hoody.

9. And as that photo illustrates them, I shall inform you all that I love plucking my eyebrows. I find it super satisfying. It's a good job really, as they're bushy in the extreme and need tidying up all the time.

10. I think I'm getting posher in my old age. Either that or I've been watching too much Miranda. I actually said "Do bear with" to someone on the phone the other day. When I start trilling "Such fun" you know I'm in trouble.

I'm supposed to pass it onto ten bloggers but I think practically everyone has already been tagged with it, no? If you haven't, and you fancy a go then do feel free.

Awards Season

Monday, 24 January 2011

No, I'm not talking Golden Globes or BAFTAS - I'll leave the red carpet photos to other bloggers. I'm talking about blog awards! The Stylish Blogger award is zooming around at the moment, isn't it? Both Cait at Indigo Babushka and Samantha at Corsets, Crafts and Cupcakes have been kind enough to pass it onto me - thanks girls! I have to list 7 facts about myself...here goes:

1) I am horrendously bad at getting up in the mornings. I have 4 different alarms set on my phone and a proper alarm clock. They wake me up but I just turn them off and go back to sleep. I think I'd be less prone to this if I didn't have the rather enjoyable ability of being able to pick up dreams where I left them when I woke up. Quite often I'd just rather be back in the dream than awake.

2) I can't reverse in a straight line. Just can't do it.

3) I entertain myself in daydreams by thinking about characters I create. I have a feeling the current story may turn into a novel one day. I just need the discipline to plot it and write it - I think episodically, not coherently.

4) My two most loathed words are moist and moreish. On principle, I won't buy anything that's advertised using the latter word.

5)I have the tattiest hair in all the world. I beat it into submission and then five minutes later it's full of knots again. This, and various childhood hairbrushing traumas are why I actively loathe people touching my hair. It makes me shudder.

Pre-beating

6) I can't stop listening to When It's Time by Green Day

7) When I am drunk I am always taking off my specs and putting them somewhere odd (probably because I always think it's a good idea to put more eyeliner on). Tipsy Alex LOVES her eyeliner.

New Year

I think I'm technically meant to pass this onto 7 other bloggers but I'm terrible at keeping track of who has done it and who hasn't. So if you haven't and you want to, consider yourself tagged!
