(Yes, I should have taken the photo before wearing it all day, not afterwards. Should probably also have remembered to cut the tag off before I wore it...)
It is definitely not something I'd usually buy. I am not the sort of girl who can waft around in a floaty cream coloured thing and not end up with some sort of bizarre stain on it by the end of the day. Consequently I don't buy that sort of clothing. I admire it, I even go and stroke it sometimes, but I don't buy it. So how did I end up with this beauty? It was very kindly sent as a free gift by Gemma from
Pink Haired Princess when I bought a couple of things in her recent blog sale. I looked at it and ooh-ed over it and hung it up for a week or so, then finally decided, what the hell, I might as well wear it. It is a very different length and colour to anything else in my wardrobe but this year has been all about branching out so it seemed like an opportune moment to try it.
Skirt - H&M via blog sale
Jumper - Dorothy Perkins
Tights - Ethel Austin, I think
Pumps & earrings - New Look (I wear these earrings stupidly often)
I am not entirely convinced by the overall look of the outfit. Perhaps it's just because it's a step out of my comfort zone, who knows? Thoughts/opinions/criticism are very welcome! (don't be mean though - I am feeling very poorly and I might cry if anyone is horrid). Any ideas on what other tops I could pair it up with?
I wore it with flats today just from sheer lack of energy to pick out a better pair of shoes. I tried it with The Fierce Boots ™ when I got home but I'm not convinced it actually looks any better. Plus, y'know, I can't actually walk in them for more than about 3 hours so they're not really a practical option anyway...
ps - I didn't get any dirty marks on it, woo hoo! That's got to be a first for me.
Alex I love the way you have put this outfit together to compliment the skirt. As a vintage fashion dealer I find skirts really difficult to sell, but you are an inspiration. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI really love this outfit, the colours and textures are so pretty x
ReplyDeleteDear Alex, I love your outfit. The pumps are very Chanel and the earrings are gorgeous. Have a wonderful weekend whatever you do xx
ReplyDeleteIt looks very pretty. I prefer it with the pumps though. I'm impressed it stayed stain free. I'm the same as you, if I can spill in anyway and stain, I will! x
ReplyDeleteLovely outfit, Alex. The skirt and pump combination really elongate your body and make you look very tall. Beautiful close-up, too.
ReplyDeleteHave a fab weekend. xxx
i like the contrast of the girlie floaty skirt and the thick knit jumper!
ReplyDeletei love blog sales, have got some right bargains from them xx
I looove this skirt. I like the choice of grey to go with it and as others have said prefer it with the pumps. I could also see this outfit working with a pair of chunky dark grey toned biker style boots and with the jumper belted with a darker grey belt. xxx
ReplyDeletemaybe a vest top? and then a thin belt to cinch the waist.. or even a thin belt cinching the jumper you've used? i find this length of hemline really...awkward! i actually think you look fine though :) and i like the new look flats, they look like the chanels :) xx

I like it. I don't know how I would wear it differently.
ReplyDeleteI don't know...I would wear it just as is (except with my brown leather boots). And I just might wear a very similar outfit indeed...

I think it's very cute. And I always get my whiteclothes dirty :(
ReplyDeleteI only have to think of white or cream and I promptly spill food or drink over myself whatever I am wearing at the time, but I love white and cream!!!
ReplyDeleteYou look super pretty and soft, and I like the pumps best with it.Wearing something different takes getting used to,but I think you're rocking it already!
xxx
I never know how to wear this length of skirt. I love the colours and textures you've combined. I think it's a very flattering outfit and the skirt looks of good quality too x
ReplyDeletethat skirt really looks beautiful on you Alex

I think it looks really great with a cosy sweater - that sort of pretty girly lacy thing can be too much with a pretty girl top, so I love the way you put it with a soft grey jumper and tights. And the flats add to the cosy feel of it.
ReplyDeleteI also like the fierce boots with it, but instead of the jumper I would contrast it with a tailored black blazer or leather jacket - so you have two looks for one skirt, one muted and cosy and the other rock chick :)
your outfit looks so comfy! i love it :)

ReplyDeleteI think you look lovely, and it looks so cute on you. Loved the boots with it and the jumper combo's a great look. xxx
ReplyDeleteI love this, it's probably the grungey girl in me, but the combo of the pretty skirt with the jumper is fab.

Love how you paired this aron sweater with the skirt!

The skirt looks good with that jumper. Definitely prefer it with flats than heels - the length looks much better with the pumps. xx

What a beautiful skirt - I'm in love with it!! I'd wear it with a simple black fitted top, and those pumps.

ps: yay! You made the jam! Glad you liked it - I'm eating it on everything just now!
I LOVE your fierce boots! Those are awesome! And I am in awe of the fact that you didn't stain that skirt, I certainly would have one way or another!
ReplyDeleteWow, looks awesome - def your style! And you are looking SO healthy in these shots: go you!
ReplyDeleteOoh it's a lovely skirt but I admit I'd struggle with what to wear with it - love how you've dresssed it down with the jumper though, stops it being too girly-girly as someone else said :)
ReplyDeleteLove this look, seems like it shouldnt work but it totally does! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt with those amazing boots!
ReplyDeletei love that skirt...i bet it feels fabulous!
ReplyDeleteHi, totally meant to email you back and never got round to it (sorry)-the skirt looks fab on you! I was totally drawn to it in the shop, although that colour is not something I would usually wear. Then I never quite found the right outfit for it and it is that awkward length too...it's got beautiful details though. Just happy someone can get some wear out of it, hope you like the other items too, look forward to seeing them on!
