This year seems to have marked a change in my approach to spending. I still save, but I'm not as obsessed with pinching pennies as I used to be. I'd rather just save a bit less and enjoy myself a bit more. Why should I constantly put off buying things that I really want? I'm going to have them and I'm going to enjoy them.
Consequently, there's a new arrival in my bedroom and it's something I've always wanted:
Oh my, how I love it! It took some tracking down but ebay produced results in the end. I don't technically have the space for it in my room but what the heck. I'll make room. It's too nice to put anywhere else. Anything that allows me to feel Mary Poppins-esque needs to stick around.
It's very useful too. Lots of the wooden ones had limited space on them but this has tons of twiddly bits and hooks - perfect for storing all my crap! The umbrella stand part at the bottom is just the right height to drape some of my scarves over.
It's a hat stand, so naturally I've been buying hats to put on it. I was always convinced that hats did not suit me at all due to my massive head. I'm not being negative here, merely descriptive. I have got a big head and most hats just don't fit! But I'm broadening my horizons and being brave and that has resulted in more hats. Turns out that I do suit them, I just have to be selective about what I buy and not get too miffed when they perch on top of my head.
You can just see my nice summery trilby (H&M mens section) and the green floppy hat I got on holiday, but the front two are newer purchases. The grey cloche is from Per Una at Marks & Spencer and I feel fantastically Miss Marple in it. The green fuzzy one is vintage and was purchased from Oxfam at the weekend for a bargainous £3.29. Want to see me wearing it and looking mildly jaundiced? Of course you do.
Another recent purchase, via the treasure trove that is
Vix's ebay store,
Kinky Melon, is this absolutely stunning vintage fake fur jacket. I feel like a glam teddy bear in it. Sadly I look more like a narky witch in the photo but trust me, I love it! Go and buy glorious things from her, you know you want to...
All filled up... Yay!
I have been ebaying for one of these for so long! I thought it would be nice to hang my scarves too. Your success is encouragement to me that I will eventually find the perfect hat/coat stand! What a great find:) xx
ReplyDeleteI've got a hat stand in my room too (though not a special one like yours, just a bog standard wooden one) and here's my top tip: don't chuck all of your stuff on the front hooks, leaving it unbalanced, so that in the night it falls over onto your bed while you're sleeping. It's terrifying. And painful.
ReplyDeleteI have ALWAYS wanted a coat/hat rack. Yours is gorgeous and I love that it's so filled already! That green hat is super cute. I never thought hats suited me either (my head is also on the large side :p) but ever since buying my big straw hat... I have high hopes for next year's hatty purchases :)
ReplyDeleteThat's rather fabulous,doll!
ReplyDeleteY'know,Vix and I have big heads too!! Mine is 1/2 inch smaller than hers, however.I think she is proud to have the biggest noggin! Hats are lovely, but I do find they make me itch!So I don't wear them that often!Loving the green one!Pretty hat, pretty girl!

I love a hat, and have far too many, that often don't get worn, unless I'm off work. Bring on winter, I'm getting my hats out. :)

That hat stand is gorgeous!!! We are about to use one in our new scheme at work and I'm hoping it won't have a use after that as we then get to take the props, fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteYour hats are great. I have a lovely hat from per una too that hubby got me, they do some great ones.

ReplyDeleteNooooo!!! I am SO jealous, I'm dying for a hat stand! There were a load in TK Maxx recently but I sort of want a vintage one, doesn't seem the same otherwise. Loving those two hats and also the scarf with the horses and hounds, even though it depicts hunting :S

ReplyDeleteI love this. I never knew you could buy these. I just always presumed they were for television and film. I think this is such a wise and stylish investment x
ReplyDeleteLove the coat, i always find that coat stands topple over and have gave away about 3 over the years, looks really nice with the scarves over.

At last, the lovely Alex in the teddy bear coat! You look absolutely gorgeous, just like I knew you would. Those hats are great. Like Helga says, both of us have mahoosive heads with mine slightly bigger but it gives me the excuse to buy up every hat in the world that fits.
ReplyDeleteThat hatstand is epic. I've been looking for one for a while. xxx
It looks great! I used to have one but gave it away when I moved.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous hat stand! I'm a hat wearer. I love the grey cloche, gonna have to go take a look at those and I got a green fluffy one in a CS two weeks ago that is similar to yours.
ReplyDeleteLove the hat stand! And the grey hat - did you buy it recently? I've been looking out for one like that for ages.
ReplyDeleteLovely lovely hat stand. Also loving your vintage scarves, I'd love a closer look at them! A future post maybe?

Great approach. You work hard so you should have treats - whether that's a material thing that you'll treasure or an experience that you'll remember for years to come. xx

ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous, I have always wanted one of these too but I'm not there yet. I am the same as you though, trying to learn to spend more on myself and not be so tight that I end up living with crap my whole life. The grey cloche is marvellous.

ReplyDeleteI just wanted to let you know I've linked you on my blog - heymynameisemma.blogspot.com.
