June Scavenger Hunt

Saturday, 30 June 2012

Hasn't June been an odd month?  It feels like it's gone by super-fast, yet the start of the month feels like it was about 6 years ago.  I can't quite reconcile the two.  Anyway, it's Scavenger Hunt time!  Thanks, as always, to Kathy for picking the categories.

At night:

Open-air theatre on a glorious summer night is one of the best things in the world. Even if it does feature terrifying witches.

Diamond:

It's highly unlikely that this is real diamond jewellery - I don't come from that sort of family. Pretty though! So let's pretend it's real.

Majesty:

King Eider looking noble at the vet's inspection at Bramham. What a lovely horse.

Before:

Just before a HUGE raincloud came across the river and soaked us.  Gahhhhhh.  The sun was cracking the flags when we set out!

Close:

Nice name for a road, isn't it?

Out of reach:

Waaah, my beloved shoes are so high up! Or I'm so short.  One of the two.  Either way, it requires a mini stepladder to reach them.

Symmetry:

Tudor style.

On the edge:

You'd have to be on the edge of sanity to sleep in this.  Eek, imagine rolling over in the middle of the night and plummeting off the edge!  I still find it quite impressive though.

After:

This was after about an hour of painstakingly redoing the lettering on my Grandad Jim's headstone.  Fiddly work!

Bunting:

On a caravan. How terribly British.

Crown:

I may have spent a good 50% of this month blowing my nose but at least my tissues have crowns on them. Ah, the joys of shopping in Historic Royal Palaces gift shops!

Sleep:

Well it was never going to be anything other than Oscar, was it? I make crazy cat lady noises when he sleeps like this.

May Scavenger Hunt

Thursday, 31 May 2012

I am turning into Lucy Lastminute when it comes to the scavenger hunt.  You'd think a month would be enough notice, wouldn't you, but I realised last night I only had 6 out of the 12 photos organised.  Cue the usual last minute scramble!

Thanks as always to Kathy for organising it.  Here are my efforts:

 Station:

I am fairly confident that I win at life for getting this photo.  Best station name EVER.  (Helpful translation - it means St Mary's church in the hollow of the white hazel near to the rapid whirlpool of Llantysilio of the red cave)

Nose:

HaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhIloveOscarveryverymuch.  Don't you just want to dive into that photo and kiss his little nose?  No?  Just me?

Beverage:

My two non-alcoholic drinks of choice.  Glass of water, black coffee with half a sugar.

 Currency:

The average contents of my purse.  I hate carrying cash round with me so there are hardly ever any notes in there.

 Fragrance:

I wish this could be in smellovision, I really do.  They line the sides of a path at work and it smells amazing when you walk along it.

 Front page:

Of a 1937 newspaper on display at Plas Newydd.

 Good things:

Sunshine, Calippo, new minty coloured pumps, freckly knees.  All good things.

Historic:

A May Day feast, Tudor style. Definitely historic.

 Nine:

Walking to the pub whilst on a family camping trip in Anglesey last weekend.  There are nine people in this photo, honest there are.  You just can't quite see some of them properly.

Do you see what I see?

It's the sea of course! And Holyhead Mountain, which I was forced to climb TWICE.  Right up to that very top bit!  On an exceedingly hot day too.

 Small packages:

Self and maman.  We are small people.  I am looking super quizzical in this photo for some odd reason.

 Yellow:

It was this eyeblindingly yellow in real life.  No idea what the plant is called, but it's jolly cheerful.

April Scavenger Hunt

Monday, 30 April 2012

Last day of the month is Scavenger Hunt day! Thanks as always to Kathy for organising it. If anyone wants to join in during May I'd love to see your photos. My April efforts are as follows:

On the move:

*cough*tenuous link*cough*

I kinda failed to take any action shots this month.  But if you're on the move then you need some antique cases to carry your stuff round in, yes?  Sadly these aren't mine.  They reside at Dinefwr.

Amazing:

We had giants in Liverpool this month. What seemed like the entire population of the North West turned out to see them. It was genuinely amazing to watch the spectacle.

In/out:

It's a gate.  Nuff said.

Direction:

You won't get lost outside the Albert Dock.  Signposts AHOY!

Indulgence:

Bed.  The bed of a single and selfish person who likes to make a fort out of the pillows and sleep a lot. I know it's indulgent and I don't care.

Multi-coloured:

Wool used in the Abergavenny Tapestry.  Aren't they a beautiful range of pastels?

Sticky:

It's stickier than the time that Sticky the stick insect got stuck on a sticky bun (cool points to anyone who gets that reference).  Absolutely delicious though.

Rock:

A really rather big rock half way up Garn Goch

Spring:

Blossom and bees.  Yay!  I love spring.

Smile:

Mine.  Avec additional blurring because I was paranoid it would look like I have a tache.  I don't!  But poking a camera that close to your face is just asking for trouble.

Tangle:

A shadowy tangle of branches.  I just rather liked the effect.

Can't live without:

Books. Books. Books. I get physically twitchy when I'm deprived of reading material.

March Scavenger Hunt

Saturday, 31 March 2012

So it's the end of March.  I am currently in the wilds of Welshest Wales but I have astounded myself by actually scheduling some posts.  Well, I couldn't miss the monthly scavenger hunt, could I?  Thanks, as always, to Kathy for coming up with the selection.

Landmark:

I'm a Liverpool lass, so what better than the Liver Buildings? And although I must own up to taking this on my phone and using Instagram, it was one of the filters that didn't actually change the colours that much. The sky was almost that blue!

Square:

I think, although quoteth me not, that these little square quatrefoils are the only known example of this particular pattern. Pretty, aren't they?

Kitchen:

I paused mid-apple-muffin-baking-session to snap this one. As you may be able to tell, I am not a tidy baker. I blame it on the size of the kitchen. There's no room to spread out.

Buttons:

These little beauties were on one of my childhood favourite cardigans. They somehow remained, even though the cardi is long gone. They're earrings now!

Theatre:

Not the most stunning picture I've ever taken but goodness me, it was the most stunning performance.  We went all the way to Edinburgh to see it and it was worth every single penny that it cost and every single second spent on a train.  Utterly mesmerising, especially The Beast.

Fancy:

Rather fancy for a table, isn't it?

Street name:

It's a real street name. Hehe, she's going to kill me when she sees this photo.

Fashion:

I wouldn't say I'm particularly fashion focused - I wear what I like. Luckily good shoes never go out of fashion.

Morning:

If you've met me, you will be well aware that I am not a morning person. My brain doesn't start functioning for quite a while after I get out of bed. So, um, I forgot to take a photo that summed up mornings. But here's one that I took in the morning. Does that count?

Half a face:

Half a Catastrophe Cosmetic facemasky face, to be exact.  I went on one of the free facemask workshops that Lush and Clipper Tea are running and it was great fun!

City:

Newcastle, in the early morning.  Really early morning.  Before 7am.  I must have been sleep walking.

Words:

I won't say which book the words come from, because they come right at the end and I don't want to spoil it for anyone. But I read them and I absolutely sobbed.

February Scavenger Hunt

Wednesday, 29 February 2012

Note to self for March - try and remember to look at Kathy's list of scavenger hunt items more than 3 days before the end of the month. I have taken rather a lot of these today.

Black and white

At least this one was easy.

5

Fnar. That is all I have to say on the matter.

Empty

Poor dead tree, it is empty(ish) inside and had to get chopped down. The tree surgeon had a very big chainsaw. Fnar again.

Crowded

A (small) section of last week's insane to-do list

Music

The song I cannot stop listening to at the moment.

Leap Year

Imagination fail.

Cupid

Bah.

Food

Well it had to be cake, didn't it? Marbled vanilla and choc chip loaf cake to be precise.

In the Sky

Is it a bird? Is it Superman? No, it's a plane. Boo hiss to the evil company with all the stupid charges.

Love

You know I don't do the hearts and flowers shit. I truly love every little thing about my ginger bundle of fluff though. Yes, even that insanely irritating habit of constantly walking backwards and forwards between my face and the laptop/magazine/book I'm looking at.

Train

I have been on a train this month, honest I have. See the top of this post for the reasons why I don't actually have a picture of one. This ticket is for my jaunt Oop North in a couple of weeks.

Heritage

Did you know that you should never polish gilt? Well you do now. I am full of such useless conservation tips.
