Today I have mostly been feeling....selfconscious

Wednesday 3 March 2010

due to not realising this morning quite how short the new dress is! Did I mention I'm not good in the mornings? It's about all I can do to actually get the clothes on, never mind looking at myself with a critical eye in the mirror to check if it looks ok. I think perhaps next time this gets worn it needs to be with leggings rather than tights so that I'm not constantly fretting about flashing people accidentally!

Dress, cardi & red tights - Primark
Fishnets - Evans
Shoes - Faith

Don't get me wrong, I like how the tights look (although perhaps a blue or purple pair might work better to pick up the floral hints in the pattern of the dress) but I appear to be flashing an awful lot more leg than I expected. Someone size 10 could probably get away with it but not me!

Any thoughts on the shoes would be welcome too. Does anyone else have that pair (or several pairs!) of shoes in their wardrobe that was bought on sale on a whim? These are mine and I think I've worn them, hmmm, twice in about 5 years? I have no idea what to wear them with and the heel is an awkward height. Perhaps it's time to send them to the charity shop.

Oh and the perils of working with a self timer on the camera when there's a marauding moggy around! He'd just had lunch, hence the licking of his lips.

  1. The shoes are sweet, but a little safe. They're very prim, and the colour's a true neutral. I would probably style them with a statement piece - a lace babydoll dress and maybe nude seamed tights - to make them really work.

That's a short dress right enough. I hope you worked it like a good'un. ;-) Love the red tights!

  2. Great legs, great look, no need to be self conscious at all. After your amazing achievement you should show that figure off to all and sundry, after all you've worked so hard for it.
I think the red is an inspired colour choice. Your beautiful moggy certainly likes the look of you.

  3. I'm with Vix. You work hard for that figure why not show it off. You look fab in the dress and I really like the tights you've paired with it.

  6. Tea dresses can never be too short (well, unless they're actually REALLY too short, in which case they're tunics, not dresses!) - the cute florals take all the sexiness out, so you're left looking gorgeously girly and not at all inappropriate!

If you feel a little self conscious about the length, why not wear super thick or wool tights rather than leggings? H&M do great wool tights in fab colours. :)

  8. No need to be self-conscious - it's not about the size, it's totally about the attitude and you have it bang on! I really like the tights too. :)

  11. I would never have looked at you and thought that's too short but I do know what you mean. You have great legs so nothing to be ashamed about! I find wearing boots makes it look like there is less leg on show, or what about jeggings underneath?
I think it looks pretty as it is though and there are so many options I can't wait to see how you wear it next time.

  12. Trust Vicki to suggest jeggings ;)

I think it's a great dress and looks fab, but if you're not comfortable then wear it with something else. If you had some little shorts you could still keep the colour of the tights maybe?

  13. Oh Alex, I just got your comment on my blog about the EA tights - I can pick some up for you if you'd like? No teal at my store *sobs gently* but purple, berry, cerise, grey and grey patterned are all left at fabboo prices.
